King William's IV INN

Know About Memories and History

The King Billy, as it is affectionately known, was built during the monarchy of King William IV, who reigned from the 25th June 1830 to June 20th 1837. It was purpose-built by William Brockbank, who was the first owner and licensee.

Barry and Susan van der Vyver (2007-2020)

Barry and Susan moved to The King Billy from The Miners’Aims in Silecroft, in 2007.

Bany was South African and brought a chef and that cuisine with him. Gradually he found that the steaks he was cooking were very popular and by 2015, the pub was becoming known as a steakhouse and was renamed the King Billy Grill.
Unfortunately, on September 1st 2019, a fire broke out in the pub, causing extensive smoke damage. Business had to be suspended, until the effects could be cleared. Then, less than a year later, at the end of July, another more serious fire broke out, resulting in the closure of the King Billy until work could begin to repair the damage and render the building safe. Barry had a business to run and arranged to use part of Brockwood, in the Whicham Valley. However, time was passing and there seemed to be little or no progress in Kirksanton, so when The Punch Bowl at The Green became available he decided to make his permanent business premises there. The King Billy was to remain closed for over two years.
